In 2013, the Claremont Colleges Library received a competitve Sparks! Ignition Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Studies to visualize the interconnected learning communities of the Colleges with concept mapping software. Our proposal was based on a highly successful pilot with the 5C Environmental Analysis program.
Each curriculum map is designed to provide a birds-eye view of a given subject's "footprint" at the consortium. Maps also help subject liaison librarians identify how to best support student information literacy skills across the curriculum and build more responsive collections.
In order to support organizational learning, build community, and identify shared opportunities/challenges across the Colleges, the Library is holding four pilot "curriculum mapping forums" with Chemistry, Politics/Political Studies/Government, Asian Studies, and English Literature faculty in April.
Based on the success of these in initial conversations, we invite 7Cs faculty to nominate their own subject area for a curriculum mapping forum in the 2014-15 year. FMI and to submit a nomination, contact Char Booth at firstname.lastname@example.org.
