Mapping the Pacific Coast, 1600-1800: California as an Island

calif-map2-med.jpgAlthough explorers and map makers as early as 1548 knew that California was a peninsula, many maps from the 17th and 18th centuries depict California as an island. This exhibit includes maps from that time period, created by map makers throughout Europe, showing California as an island.

The exhibit, featuring maps from the Wagner Collection of Maps and Atlases, will be on display in the Honnold/Mudd north lobby gallery space through Fall 2015.
